Charcoal Solder Block

The traditional charcoal block is the preferred soldering surface for many master jewelers, as it reflects heat back into the workpiece and creates a reducing atmosphere that helps prevent oxidation.

It is made from high-density, compressed charcoal that can be pinned into for holding parts in place. The block can be easily carved or "dished out" to hold molten metal for graining or small-scale melting.
